This spring offers an exciting line-up of events on the KZN South Coast, both on the beach and beyond.
From unique events such as those that offer mountain biking and running through a game reserve to a beer festival at a golf course and a Porsche Club Show and Shine, the events will inspire, rejuvenate and excite those who have been working too hard and bring families and friends together in an entertaining and invigorating atmosphere.
Spring kicks off with the new Coast Market in Margate on Spring Day, as well as a surfing competition for kids at surfers’ paradise, St Michael’s on Sea.
The Coast Market offers gourmet food, fashion, craft and good vibes. Another new market to look out for is the upmarket Halfway Community Market on 22 September and 20 October in Port Shepstone.
Regular markets, such as the Margate Mardi Gras, 3 October, Uvongo Flea Market, every Saturday and Sunday, and Scottburgh Flea Market, every Saturday morning, always deliver on local goods and charm and are very popular.
The rest of September features races and more competitions that have great participator and spectator value. Matat2Pont, a 3-day off-road motorbike enduro ride from Matatiele in the Eastern Cape to The Pont in Port Edward on the KZN South Coast, will draw the crowds with its full on action from the 21st to the 23rd of September.
For rugby fans, there are two events happening. At Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds, the national Golden Oldies Rugby Tournament runs from the 20th to the 22nd September and at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre, the Rugby 7’s Championship runs from the 22nd to the 23rd of September.
Join us for the unique last race of the South Coast Fever MTB Series 2018, which will take place at Lake Eland Game Reserve. Whether you are a mountain bike or trail run athlete or enthusiast, this is not to be missed. Online entries are still open until 3 October, as well as on race day, 7 October, at registration.
From the 27th to the 28th of October, the 13th Doug Watson Memorial Classic will draw bowling competitors to the Margate Bowling Club for a charitable clash and R20,000 prize money.
Dog lovers will jump at the chance to attend the Hibiscus and Margate Kennel Club Championship dog show in Port Shepstone on 28-30 September.
Another great way of enjoying the outdoors and doing something for the environment is the Southern Shoreline Challenge. On 2 September, walk from Oslo Beach to Shelly Beach and on 16 September join the last leg from Shelly Beach to Lucien Beach, picking up litter as you go along.
Selborne Park Golf Estate is hosting a 9-hole Night Golf event, which promises to be great fun. The San Lameer Golf Course is putting on two golf events, the SANParks Golf Day on 21 September and a unique Pro Deo Trio Event, combining mountain biking, running and golf to raise funds for the aged, disabled and cancer survivors on 16 September.
Popular golf events such as the Umdoni Team Challenge, on 28 September at Umdoni Park Golf Club and the Wild Coast Sun Tournament on 30 September and 1 October, will continue to attract golfers with a passion for playing these well-known courses on the Golf Coast.
The friendly Margate Country Club will be hosting a brand new Beer Festival on 5-6 October, which is not to be missed by golfers or beer lovers. Southbroom Golf Club will be holding their Mixed Classic on 13-14 October.
At Port Shepstone Country Club, the national KZNLGA Ladies Interclub will bring women golfers from around the country to this beautiful course. All 11 golf courses on the Golf Coast is offering great golf at insanely affordable prices and are well worth visiting for the experience.
The Porsche Club has chosen the KZN South Coast for their 32nd gathering of the Porsche Club Parade, which will see around 200 Porsche enthusiasts from around the country descend on the destination with more than 100 Porsches.
See and be seen at the Porsche Gymkhana and Top End Event at Dezzi South Coast Raceway, 21-22 September, and the Porsche Club Show and Shine at the Margate Pier on 23 September. All are welcome to come and view these glittering beauties out in the sunshine.
The ultimate racing destination, the KZN South Coast will not disappoint petrol heads or families looking for something different and exciting to watch at Dezzi South Coast Raceway with the KZNRRC (KZN Road Racing Club) on 15 September and 13 October, as well as some hot drag racing action on 29 September and 27 October.
What is a holiday without the beach? Apart from the 39 KZN South Coast beaches’ natural assets, the destination can always be relied on to provide entertainment for the whole family.
This spring break, look out for the Spring Arts Fiesta on Margate beach (29 September – 1 October), Hibberdene beach (2-3 October), St Michaels on Sea beach (4-5 October) and Scottburgh beach (6-7 October).
Activities will include an arts and crafts fair, buskers, sand sculpting workshops, slam poetry, hip hop dancing, maskandi artists, art exhibitions, poetry readings, talent contests and more!
