Wild5 Adventures

Extreme Adventures

Break your boundaries!

Wild 5, based on site at the Oribi Gorge Hotel, offers a range of adrenalin-inducing activities that guarantee to get your blood pumping!

The Wild Swing

The Wild Gorge swing is an awesome experience that leaves you breathless yet exhilarated. Situated at the top of Lehr’s Falls, it is the highest swing in the world. Hurl yourself (or simply step) off the edge of the waterfall to swing into the gaping depths of the gorge – 165m (55 Storeys) Unbelievable! A full body harness is used to allow for a comfortable ride.

The Wild Slide (Zip-line)

Experience solitary bliss! Slide along the cable that spans across the gorge, 165m above the treetops. Strapped securely in a full body harness, you can lavish the view without compromising your comfort… Enjoy a bird’s eye views of Lehr’s Waterfall and Baboon’s Castle!

Abseiling

Abseil down a 110m Cliff face, alongside Lehr’s waterfall, and experience a new dimension in sightseeing! Determine your own pace, and lavish the thrill of one of the world’s highest commercial abseils. The first 45m is a cliff abseil where one traditionally abseils with their feet against the cliff while the remaining 65m is a free abseil allowing one to take in the beauty of the gorge from a different angle. Beginners are welcome to abseil and will be given full instruction on the techniques and only when they have satisfied certain requirements will they be lowered over the edge of the 170m waterfall. Qualified trainers are on hand to show one the ropes, so to speak.

White Water Rafting

Awaken the adventurer in you, and brave the elements in a full trip down the Umzimkhulu River. Meet the River Guides at Oribi Gorge Hotel at 08h00. Following a safety briefing you will be driven down a 4×4 trail to the “drop off point” on the Umzimkhulu River (20mins). The duration of the expedition varies according the river conditions and skill of the paddlers. After braving the rapids (grades 2 to 4, depending on the river conditions) you will be collected and returned to the Hotel. The rate includes refreshments (juice/water & chocolate) on the river. Lunch can be ordered from the sumptuous a la Carte menu, back at the Hotel. Braai and Buffet menus are available for groups – this can be arranged with the Hotel.

Qualified guides (APA) are on hand through the spills and thrills to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. Rafting operates all year round and booking is essential. A minimum of four people required.

Ballistic Paintball

Coming soon…

Hiking/MTB Trails

Enjoy a gentle hike to the various view sites or a more strenuous climb (down a rocky climbing path) to the bottom of the Gorge.

Mountain bikers can follow the scenic single track (horse trail), meandering along the top of the gorge. For a super-strenuous work-out, why not attempt riding up the Gorge! Bring your own bike.

Horse Riding

1½ hour or 3 hour scenic guided trails for novices and experienced riders.

Operating Hours

08h30 – 16h30, daily (Monday to Sunday, including public holidays)

Bookings

Wild 5 operates on a first come, first served basis.

The only exception is the white water rafting (bookings essential).

Dress

Casual, comfortable clothes and closed shoes are recommended.

The 2012 Mallards/Mercury Ski-Boat Festival will be the 12th consecutive event since the inaugural Ski-Boat “Bonanza” held in 2001. Over the years it has evolved from a small fishing competition to one of the major events on the South Coast Tourism calendar. Last year with the assistance of Lions Shelly Beach, there was first class entertainment both during the day and every evening so the holidaymakers down for their winter break flocked to the big marquee every day.

Not only does the timing of the event coincide with the winter school holidays but also the annual Sardine Run which attracts the fish therefore it’s the best time of year for anglers looking for the big Tuna or King Mackerel.

During the week of the event we set up a huge marquee at St. Michaels where all the activities such as registration, daily weigh-in, prize giving and a variety of entertainment and attractions for both anglers and public take place.

Wednesday the 27th to Saturday the 30th June 2012

Top prise is a Mallards Cobra CAT 630 fitted with 2 x 115HP, 4-stroke Mercury Motors. Complete on double axle trailer.
