DO:
- Swim on patrolled beaches, between the designated flags
- Comply with the directions of lifesavers – they know the water conditions better than you do
- Watch your children constantly when they are in the water
- Ensure you remain hydrated – keep water bottles handy
- Apply suncream – beware of the sun’s rays.
- If you get into trouble in the water, remain calm and don’t panic! Raise your arm for help, float and wait for the lifeguards to help you
- Steer clear of deserted beaches unless you are in a large group
DO NOT:
- Swim directly after a meal
- Swim alone
- Try to swim against a current, this will
- just tire you
- Run and dive into the water. Even if you have checked before, conditions can change
- Swim when the beach has been closed by the lifesavers – they have good reasons to do so
- Mix alcohol and swimming
- Leave your valuables unattended
