Margate fishing pier was damaged by heavy floods in March 2007. After a lengthy process involving several environmental assessment studies Council finally took the decision to rehabilitate rather than demolish the remaining structure. The restoration project was completed in 2010, and the pier was officially re-opened on 19 December 2010 by Her worship, the Mayor Cllr Nolwazi Shusha.
